Alexei Kovalev skating again after surgery
Alexei Kovalev skated for the first time Sunday since undergoing reconstructive surgery to repair a complete tear of the ACL in his left knee. He suffered the injury during an April 8 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning and sat out the entire Senators playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
“I skated for the first time yesterday and I felt great. I was too excited, but I didn't want to go too much on it,” Kovalev said on Monday. “I feel happy the way everything is going and we'll see how it goes at camp.”

How long can Daniel Alfredsson last?
As impossible as it seems to try to imagine the Ottawa Senators suiting up without Daniel Alfredsson as their captain, die-hard fans have to accept that the soon to be 38 year old Alfredsson may not have many seasons left in front of him.
Alfredsson has played fourteen NHL seasons with the Senators, 1,002 regular-season games, 107 Stanley Cup playoff games and has compiled in that time 375 goals and 617 assists. He starts this season only eight points shy of the magic 1,000 mark. Only Teemu Selanne, 40, and 38-year-olds Mike Knuble and Ray Whitney are NHL forwards who are older than Alfredsson and still making significant offensive contributions to their teams…

Is Erik Karlsson the Sens next big star?
With key Ottawa Senators veterans nearing at the end of their careers, it is only natural to look down the depth chart at the prospects to see who the next rising stars may be.
Young Erik Karlsson definitely has the potential to step up and be a top four defenceman. This season should also see Karlsson playing valuable minutes alongside veteran puck-mover Sergei Gonchar, so his numbers and his skill level are bound to go up.

Chris Neil has high hopes for season ahead
“That’s the bottom line and the goal for us — we want to put ourselves in a better situation, so we’re playing a lower (seeded) team than us and we get home-ice advantage,” said the 31-year-old forward Chris Neil.
Neil is also excited about having newly acquired Sergei Gonchar on the power-play: “I think if we up our power-play status, we're definitely going to be higher in the standings and put ourselves in a better position.”
